Spirits were high as Manchester United made their return to the Champions League tonight, but the mood quickly turned after Luke Shaw was taken off the pitch on a stretcher following a challenge in the PSV penalty area.
Shaw has been one of United's stand-out players this season, and was going through on goal when a hard challenge from PSV's Hector Moreno took man and ball, but unfortunately for Shaw his standing foot was planted and the resulting injury will no doubt see him sidelined for some time.

You could tell right away it was a bad one. Hector Moreno himself knew it:
Hopefully there are no complications and he can return to the pitch as soon as possible, but this was something that Manchester United certainly didn't need.
