A young Robin van Persie came very close to playing for Rangers.
In an interview with Ray Stubbs for BT Sport he explained that Rangers manager at the time Dick Advocaat wanted to bring him to Ibrox. It seems that the move did not materialise as Rangers needed to sell a player before acquiring van Persie.
This is something that the Manchester United striker has spoken about in the past.
My European debut was against Rangers at Ibrox and that was a fantastic moment. When I heard about their interest, I sat by the phone hoping it would ring.
I was in a difficult situation at my club and desperate to leave. Advocaat told me he needed to sell some players before he could buy. That's why it dragged on and did not happen.
Just imagine, Rangers could have had a strikeforce of van Persie AND Messi.
