Roberto Martinez has dismissed Roy Keane's accusations that Everton don't want their players playing for Ireland as complete nonsense. The Spaniard hit back, saying:
At the club we are always so proud to see our players represent their countries. I think the record shows that. Since I've been at the club 18 players have represented their countries; over 140 caps.
It's something that we're very very proud of and every player at our club is desperately proud to represent their countries as well.
When asked specifically about Keane, Martinez said 'Nah it's nothing. For me to comment ... It's completely nonsense. He went on to describe McGeady. Coleman, Gibson and McCarthy as four incredible characters who love to play for their country:
It's disappointing when you see some sort of news in the media that could put that [their love for their country] in doubt. That's the disappointing aspect.
These players would give their lives to represent their countries.
Passionate stuff from the Everton manager.
