James McClean was given hell by the Sunderland fans, a fair portion of whom never liked him even while their club paid his wages, for ninety minutes during West Brom's 1-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
McClean couldn't resist retaliating by aiming a few triumphant fist pumps in their direction at the final whistle. Understandable but unwise.
This greatly offended Danny Graham, who sought to ingratiate himself with his own club's yahoos, and stood in to defend their honour.
The Football Away Days twitter account captured the post-match response of the Sunderland fans. They pulled out an old classic. As ever, the considered opinions of English football fans on Irish politics are well worth hearing.

Here's an alternative angle on the celebration that sparked the row.
