Things went very very badly for Newcastle today. A disastrous 3-0 loss to Leicester brings them right back into a relegation fight, and two red cards mean that they will be without key players for part of the final three games where they will hope to avoid relegation. Newcastle are two points clear of the relegation zone, albeit having played a game more than Sunderland in 17th.
Newcastle were a shambles in their loss today, and manager John Carver was in no mood to make excuses for his players. Carver went on an astonishing tirade against his players work ethic and focus.
But it was Mike Williamson and Daryl Janmaat who were the focus of the ire, with Carver singling them out for their red cards. Carver said that he thought the referee made absolutely the right decisions with the red cards, and he thought that Williamson had gotten himself sent off on purpose to avoid playing for the rest of the season. Williamson was sent off for two yellow cards, the second of which came just after half time, where he went knee high on a player who was already over the touchline.
