VIDEO: Ger Canning Is To Blame For Robbie Keane's 'Dream Come True' Mantra

Ireland's greatest ever striker ships an inexplicable amount of slagging over his supposed propensity for alluding to his boyhood dreams whenever the mildest of good fortune strikes.

For the record, the only clubs he has claimed it was a 'dream to true' to join were Liverpool, Celtic (understandable in the case of two surely, for a Dublin-born Liverpool fan at least) and LA Galaxy (which was perhaps reaching a bit).

Here he is after his stellar debut in the 2-0 defeat at home to Argentina in 1998. RTE staff were evidently stretched the bone elsewhere so Ger Canning had to leave his GAA comfort zone and interview the breathless 17 year old Robbie.

Ger suggests rather innocently that the events of the evening may have represented a dream come true for Robbie. He didn't know what he was starting. Robbie, for his part, likes the phrase and runs with it.

No doubt the people who seem to enjoy sneering at Keane will be incredulous at the thought that an Irish boy who likes football would ever have dreamt of playing for Ireland.

Leaving aside all that nonsense, it's a good interview. Mick McCarthy, standing beside Robbie, said he hoped to one day be boasting about having managed him.
