An interesting artefact from those early post-Saipan days when England was nearly as besotted with Roy Keane as this island. A Channel 4 documentary, ambitiously titled 'Inside the Mind of Roy Keane', recounts the tale of Brian Clough punching Roy Keane after an underhit back-pass late on in a cup-tie against Palace cost Forest a goal.
Keane himself wrote about the incident in his first autobiography - the one ghosted by Dunphy.
When I walked into the dressing room after the game, Clough punched me straight in the face. 'Don't pass the ball back to the goalkeeper, ' he screamed as I lay on the floor, him standing over me. I was hurt and shocked , too shocked to do anything but nod my head in agreement. My honeymoon with Clough and professional football was over.
Forest defender Phil Starbuck and scout Alan Hill have a slightly different recollection but there was a dig thrown.
