Credit goes to Des Cahill for bringing this fantastic footage (of early 80's quality) to the nation's attention. The only time Ireland have ever bettered today's 7-0 scoreline was in 1983 against Malta in game was played in front of 11000 fans at the slightly less comfortable surroundings of Dalymount Park. Two goals apiece from Mark Lawrenson and Liam Brady were added to by Frank Stapleton, Kevin O'Callaghan, Kevin Sheedy and Gerry Daly.
Ireland missed out on qualification for Euro 1984 after finishing behind Spain and the Netherlands, but with qualification much easier these days, let's hope today's near record breaking result will be put to use where it matters.
