Delving into the problems facing the domestic game would take a longer article than this but there's no doubt that allowing our best talent to leave for pennies is certainly up there with the biggest impediments to success for the League of Ireland. It's easy to see why it happens, clubs need cash and they need it fast to keep. The wiggle room to see the bigger picture is simply not there and that's great news for clubs across the water.
Everton did an incredible bit of business when they pinched Seamus Coleman off Sligo for the grand sum of a few training bibs, we jest, it was the grand sum of £60,000 give or take a few quid.
Coleman is now worth an estimated £25 million and some of the biggest teams in Europe are sniffing around. The Donegal man's goal-scoring performance against Young Boys last night won't have done any harm to that transfer value and the Everton fans in Bern were all too happy to praise one of the greatest transfer deals in Premier League history.
