You may be familiar with ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption". The extremely popular talk show is fronted by Tony Kornheiser and Micheal Wilbon and features the two chattering back and forth about the sporting issues of the day in the U.S.
Every once in a while "soccer" rears its head on the show and yesterday Wilbon went on a rant about current US coach Jurgen Klinsmann. Klinsmann is already under fire Stateside for not picking Landon Donovan in the U.S World Cup squad but drew the PTI fire after giving an interview in the New York Times in which he gave a European slant on the question of the value of legends:
"This always happens in America. Kobe Bryant, for example—why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?"
Wilbon gives the most "Team America" riposte possible
