Now this is rather nice. Xander Bailey, an 18-year-old from West Virginia who suffers from cystic fibrosis, was given the chance to fulfill a childhood dream thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation and his hero Clint Dempsey.
Before the start of the preseason game between Dempsey’s Seattle Sounders FC and Tottenham, Bailey kicked off the match and played the ball forward with Dempsey before unleashing a shot at Brad Friedel. He was then replaced and left the field to thunderous applause.
Bailey had trained with the Sounders in the lead-up to the match and was listed as part of the starting lineup with the squad number 45. The crowd at CenturyLink Field chanted his name and held up green cards with his name and number.
