Forget everything you thought you knew about getting sent off because Clint Dempsey has torn up the rule book. The former Fulham and Spurs attacker managed to receive a second yellow card for the strangest reason you're ever likely to see. As can be seen in the clip above he first of all flings the referee's notebook on the ground.
He then picks it up but instead of returning it to the referee he decides to tear it up. Clint wasn't done there though, as he decides to clap right in the linesman' face as he is walking past him on his way to an early bath.

In a truly crazy game of football, Seattle received a total of three red cards, two of which came as the game deteriorated into carnage during extra time. The "Rave Green" finished the game with only 7 players after Obafemi Martins was stretchered off after all three substitutions had already been made. Portland Timbers won the fourth round encounter of the US Open Cup 3-1.
