On Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville went head to head on that ceaseless football issue, zonal marking vs man marking.
Carragher said that he was sick on people blaming the system when a goal was scored against a zonal defence but simply blaming the player when scored against a man marking defence. The former Liverpool player, who played zonally under Rafa Benitez, contended that when a goal was scored against a zonal defence, it was also usually due to an individual error.
Neville believed man marking to be the better system as he believes "accountability and simplicity is important".
Despite spending ten minutes defending the system, Carragher conceded that if he was coaching a club right now then he would use a man marking system.
