Last month, Louis van Gaal gave a fascinating talk to Dutch business leaders just before he and his Netherlands squad departed for Brazil for the World Cup.
The new Red Devils boss outlined his vision for the Dutch campaign, and spoke of the expectations he had for his players and his extensive support staff.
The presentation is full of van Gaal’s famous confidence: “People call me arrogant, but I couldn’t really care less”, he says at one point. “I’m not arrogant, but I do believe in my vision. In a particular structure, so that the people in the organisation can rely on a clear framework.”
We also get a glimpse of his fine sense of humour, which is far more evident and natural when he speaks in his native tongue.
If he chooses to be as forthright, interesting and downright mesmerising as he was here, we can expect much more of the same during his time at Old Trafford.
Unless your nederlandse taal is up to scratch, be sure to turn the captions on – they’re perfectly done.
