Victor Valdes has called time on an illustrious career at Camp Nou. The former Barcelona No 1. has written an open letter lauding his former managers and team mates. Valdes also heaped praise on his fans who he describes as the 'most important people' in his professional life in a slightly Neville-esque statement.
Louis Van Gaal, Frank Rijkaard, Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova feature most prominantly in the shotstopper's tribute, each recieving praise for their hand in shaping Valdes' career.
His adulation of Van Gaal is particularly poignant; he thanks the Dutchman for 'showing the courage necessary to gamble on a talent that only he could see' and credits the former Ajax man with laying the groundwork for 'building this historic Barça side'.
Valdes rues not having had the chance to bow out on the pitch, owing to the ligament tear that has sidelined him since the end of March and for which he is currently receiving treatment.
