The World Cup reaction in the USA has been immense, one that has seen a number of famous faces lend their support to their national side. The hype has now officially reached fever pitch with news that Warner Bros are planning a re-make of the Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone football film 'Escape To Victory', off the back of the growing popularity of soccer in the US.
Escape to Victory starred Caine and Stallone as second world war allied prisoners of war forced to play a football match against the German national team for propaganda purposes. The men agree in order to use the game as cover for an escape attempt, but soon find themselves risking discovery in their determination to put one over on their captors.
The original film featured Brazil's Pelé, Argentina's Ossie Ardiles and Scotland's John Wark and is fondly remembered by many at Balls Towers.
We sincerely hope that Stallone and Ardiles feature in some capacity in the new film, though too much screen time for the pairing may render the film completely incomprehensible.
