Liverpool haven't signed a player from Southampton in six months. In a bid to address this alarming anomaly, and to help fix their chronic goalscoring problems, Liverpool are being linked with Shane Long.
The targetting of Long has not sat easily with many Liverpool followers, including former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy.
Murphy's former teammate Didi Hamann has disagreed, however, and believes that Long would be a fine addition to Jurgen Klopp's squad.
Hamann speaks highly of the Irish striker, with the respect of a man who has seen Long single-handedly vanquish his native country.
Perhaps more worrying for Liverpool is news of players that have actually signed. It was confirmed today that Simon Mignolet will be at Anfield until 2021.
