It was the annoyance that Jose Mourinho must have been hoping would just blow over like all the rest of them. Unfortunately for the Chelsea manager, that doesn't look like happening any time soon.
News emerged yesterday that Eva Carneiro had resigned from her post as Chelsea doctor amid reports that she is getting legal advice over a possible case of constructive dismissal by the Premier League champions.
Mourinho's reaction to all this has, publicly, been to ignore it and assume it would go away. However, given that he was revealing nothing, we had no way of knowing how things were being addressed behind closed doors. For all we know he could have been grovelling, begging Carneiro to return. It's unlikely, but it was possible.
However, it seems that's not what has happened. Instead, Mourinho has addressed it privately much the same way he has done publicly, by completely ignoring it.
The London Evening Standard are reporting that Carneiro would not have resigned had the Chelsea boss simply apologised for his part in the argument which saw Carneiro and physio Jon Fearn given a public dressing down for their decision to treat Eden Hazard on the opening day of the season.
As you may have guessed, an apology from Mourinho was not forthcoming. There's sure to be plenty of Chelsea fans willing to defend their manager but this is getting ridiculous at this stage.
