The first signing of the Erik Ten-Hag era looks to be here with Manchester United inching towards agreeing a deal worth up to €17 million for Feyenoord left back Tyrell Malacia. Malacia looked set to join Lyon in Ligue 1, but a late move from United has hijacked the deal.

The 22-year-old shares the same agent as fellow Manchester United target Frenkie De Jong which will definitely be good news for United fans.

Who is Tyrell Malacia?

Malacia has made over 100 appearances for Feyenoord since making his debut back in 2017 at the age of 18. He has also been capped five times for the Netherlands at senior level.

The full back made 50 appearances for the dutch side this season and was an integral part of the team, helping them to a third place finish in the Eredivisie. Malacia scored once and assisted five times from left back.

It's a position that Manchester United are rather stacked in with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles still on the books at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports News reporter Anton Toloui has described Malacia as a "dynamic player" and "can change the way you attack".

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Toloui said:

"This is an interesting one, left-back is where Man United are well stacked. There's not necessarily a most desperate need for them.

"One person I speak to say he's the best left-back in the Eredivisie. Malacia is rapid, quick and loves to get forward. You see lots of flashy recovery tackles which look great but also worries me, when a defender has to go back.

"He puts in so much yardage, he's keen to get involved in the play going forwards which is what Man United fans want to see. I can see why there's interest from United as such a dynamic player can change the way you attack."

Manchester United and Frenkie De Jong

De Jong seems to Ten Hag's primary target this season and Fabrizio Romano has reported that "the deal with Barcelona is progressing well".

It's believed that Barcelona are holding out for a fee of around €85 million, but Manchester United seem to be closer to a €65 million deal with add ons rising up to the sort of number that Barcelona are looking for.
