Liverpool have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks, with the squad in the midst of a major overhaul ahead of next season.

Heading into this summer, it was clear that the club were set to undergo a sizeable rebuild in midfield. A number of fringe players were to leave on free transfers, with new recruits needed to revitalise an area of the team that had grown incredibly stale.

In saying that, few would have predicted the scale of the potential outgoings during the current window. Along with the fringe players mentioned above, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson also look set to leave after offers from Saudi Arabia.

Those two departures are ones that Liverpool would not necessarily have expected, leaving them scrambling to make further midfield additions to go along with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai.

Liverpool add two Premier League midfielders to transfer shortlist

A number of players have been mentioned as potential targets to replace Fabinho. A four-man shortlist of Romeo Lavia (Southampton), Kalvin Phillips (Man City), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich), and Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina) did not inspire much confidence among the club's supporters.

However, two more options have now emerged.

The Athletic are reporting that Crystal Palace's Cheick Doucoure and Aston Villa's Boubacar Kamara are potential targets for Liverpool this summer.

Doucoure moved to Selhurst Park from Lens last summer for a fee of around £26million, going on to impress during his debut campaign in the Premier League. At 23-years old and having experience in the English top flight under his belt, he is the type of signing Jurgen Klopp has experienced success with in the past.

The same can be said of Kamara. Another 23-year old, he was massively impressive during his debut campaign at Villa Park last time out.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with Romeo Lavia prior to the news of the potential departure of their two experienced midfielders, something that has seemingly changed the situation. At 19-years old and with an asking price of £50million, the club may feel that they need a more mature option in that position to compensate for the loss of Henderson and Fabinho.

If they have ambitions of competing at the top end of the table next season, this is a move they will have to get right.
