English clubs have stepped into a drought of early 1990s proportions in European competition. At least back then, they could pin the blame on post-Heysel malaise.

What's their excuse now, one wonders?

Eden Hazard's diffident performance on the night was bad enough. But he enraged pretty much everyone in Stamford Bridge by deeming it appropriate to swap shirts with his opposite number at half-time during tonight's loss to Paris St. Germain.

One might recommend at this point that a player should only swap shirts when victory is assured.
