The "hipster" contingent of Ireland's football fans will be delighted with the news that TV3 will not be featuring an English club for their live Champions League coverage this week.
With the option of showing Spartak Moscow vs Liverpool, Man City vs Shakhtar Donetsk or Apoel Nicosia vs Spurs, they have instead vouched for the outstanding tie of the round; Dortmund vs Real Madrid.

Given the relentless nature in which Irish broadcasters will usually show an English club (or Celtic) where available, TV3's decision is surprising.
Although none of the particular ties available this week necessarily capture the imagination, the decision to overlook Liverpool particularly would seem to stand at odds with their guaranteed fan-base among Irish audiences.

While many Liverpool fans will take it as a given that their club's match will be televised, there will be some need for recalculation as they search for another option.
Regarding the two teams that will be on our screens, Dortmund began their campaign with a less than impressive 3-1 loss to Spurs earlier this month.
After a surprisingly slow start to domestic affairs, Real began their second successive defence of the Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Apoel in Madrid.
