Troy Parrott, welcome to the party!

A lot has been said about the Dubliner over the last couple of years. He carried a massive weight of expectation as he came through the ranks at Spurs, with many anointing him as the future of Irish football.

Of course, he would struggle during his first campaign in senior football over the course of 2020/21. Loan spells at Millwall and Ipswich Town would not go to plan, with the forward struggling for form and confidence. What was often lost in that conversation was the fact that Parrott was still a teenager at this time.

It looked as though a similar story was about to unfold at MK Dons this season, although things have completely turned around over the last couple of months.

Having impressed with his work rate at the club, the goals have now started to follow.

Parrott followed with winner for Ireland against Lithuania with a stunning chip for MK Dons in midweek, displaying the type of confidence he is carrying at the moment.

Remarkably, his goal against AFC Wimbledon was arguably even more impressive.

With his side chasing an eqaliser going into the final ten minutes, the Irishman would produce an incredible volley to get them back on level terms.

An absolute stunner.

The game would go on to finish 1-1, with MK Dons securing what could be a valuable point in their promotion push.

As for Parrott, he has now scored five goals for club and country since the start of March. He will be hoping to continue that run in the weeks ahead, with this run of form making him a real option to start for Ireland in the UEFA Nations League fixtures at the start of June.
