Coming off the back off a fantastic season in the Netherlands, it will be interesting to see what happens with Troy Parrott over the coming months.

The Irishman scored 17 goals on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam, and while the club would be relegated from the Eredivisie, the striker certainly got his career back on track after a few difficult years. Now, he is set to return for Spurs for pre-season.

What happens after that point remains to be seen. Parrott's form for Excelsior has reportedly drawn the interest of some big Dutch clubs, and with the player having just 12 months remaining on his current contract, now feels like the right time for him to move on from his current team.

However, some feel that he will be given a chance to stake his claim for a place at Spurs next season.

Can Troy Parrott force his way into the Spurs squad?

Ange Postecoglou is likely to make some changes to his Spurs squad for next season, especially when you consider the way in which they tailed off towards the end of last season. While most of those changes are likely to come via the transfer market, could a returning loan player force his way into the squad over the coming months?

Speaking to Tottenham News, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson said that he feels Postecoglou will be open to including Troy Parrott in his plans moving forward if he impresses during pre-season.

He had a great season on loan. It’ll be interesting to see what pre-season tells us, though that won’t get underway for a while due to the Euro 2024 players not coming back.

I think he’ll come back into the Tottenham set-up a lot earlier than the other players, and should be given an opportunity during pre-season in games. It’s up to him to hit the ground running.

The manager will have perceived ideas of what he wants, and what he expects of him, but it’s up to the player to come back in pre-season and take his opportunity while players are away. I think Postecoglou will be open-minded about his future because he’ll know what he did on loan last season.

He’ll also know the quality of the player, so I don’t think there will be any pre-emptive decisions made about him just yet ahead of next season.

While it may seem unlikely at this point, if Troy Parrott can make his mark in pre-season, we could yet see him as part of Spurs' squad next season.

No matter where he ends up, it is important that he builds upon the momentum he has developed in recent months by playing as much as possible during the 2024/25 campaign.
