Fabio Borini's underwhelming time at Anfield appears to be finally coming to an end as he nears a move back to Italy.

The 24-year-old chose to stay and fight for his place last season but only scored two goals and has now accepted his time at Liverpool is over with him closing in on a switch to Fiorentina.

The Italian was pushed further down the pecking order after Liverpool signed strikers Christian Benteke and Danny Ings this summer while Divock Origi returns after a loan at Lille.

Borini has two years remaining on his contract and Liverpool want £8m for the striker they paid Roma £10.5m for three years ago when he was Brendan Rodgers first signing at the club.

Borini is set to be the latest player to depart Anfield as their summer clear-out continues and long-serving Brazilian Lucas Leiva could be next after Liverpool said they would listen to offers for the midfielder.
