11:05 That's that then friends. The window has closed. The last bit of news; Micheal Essien is on his way to Real Madrid for the season. A thousand phone lines have gone dead, Jim White's heart rate has returned to normal and Arsene has been asleep the whole time. Lets do this again.

22:56 Micheal Owen says he has nothing to confirm and that there is an interesting few days ahead. As a free agent he doesn't need to sign for any stable in this window.

22:54 Ooh, the journalists are starting to scratch each other's eyes out. In fairness, I think we've known for a long time now that Sky's sources are Twitter users.

22:44 Those "Sky Sources" say Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone & Stoke's Wilson Palacios in talks with Fulham. They would want to get a move on eh?

22:38 Still no word on the completion of Javi Garcia to Man City and nothing more on Jao Mountinho to Spurs. That looks dead now.

22:28 We are almost 30 minutes away from the end of deadline day and Liverpool have shipped out a striker and done nothing to replace him. Robbie Fowler wants you to know he's still around.

22:17 Aston Villa have announced the signing of Christian Benteke. I can't wait for Paul Merson to try and say that.

22:14 The last minute medical has always been a mystery to me.

22:09 Yossi is heading back to West Ham. The deal is nearing completion according to Sky. They also inform us that Chelsea were paying him..wait for it..£92,000 a week.

22:06 Does where Clint Dempsey will end up this summer count as a "saga"? It's over anyway.

22:01 The last hour may see the following merry go round happen; Lassana Diarra to Anzhi - meaning Michael Essien to Real Madrid - meaning Yossi Benayoun to West Ham.

21:55 At this point, lets celebrate the Sky Sports News reporters who have manfully stood outside training grounds up and down England and have filled airtime with updates that didn't contain any real information.

21:47 There's hope yet Arsenal fans.

21:39 Man City complete the signing of "the new Nemanja Vidic" Matija Nastasic from Fiorentia with Stefan Savic going to Fiorentina as part of the deal.

21:31 Michael Essien could be on his way to Real Madrid as a replacement for Lasanna Diarra.

21:29 Clint Dempsey to Spurs? Could be according to Rory Smith of The Times.

21:16 TRANSFER! Spurs complete the signing of French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon. The fee mentioned earlier was £10m possibly rising to £15m.

21:09 Another signing for Fulham.

20:55 Sky Sports show pictures of Javi Garcia arriving in Manchester for his medical with Manchester City. He's basically a younger Nigel de jong.

20:42 Sky Sports and the BBC are reporting that it is now very unlikely that Clint Dempsey will move to Liverpool. The Merseysiders bid didn't match Fulham's valuation and we have reached the classic stalemate.

20:40 Steven N'Zonzi is close to leaving Blackburn for Stoke City. He is 6ft 4in tall. I wonder what attracted Tony Pulis to him? Stoke remind me of those carnival signs telling you how tall you had to be to go on the rollercoaster.

20:32 It's all gone a little quiet on deadline day. Chairmen, agents, managers and players are pausing to consider their next move. In the meantime, where will this guy end up? Hint, the answer has something to do with what's behind him.

20:17 Falcao has scored again. Watch it here. Andy Carroll once cost as much as this man. Remember that deadline day?

20:09 Charlie Adam's tribute to Harry Redknapp on deadline day has gone a little un-noticed. Harry is in his car wistfully looking at his phone and pressing the up and down button on his window.

20:04 Falcao has given Atletico the lead in the Super Cup final against Chelsea.

Could anyone put a price on him now?

19:58 Via James Horncastle. Edison Cavani signs on for three more years at Napoli. Anyone care to wager which year of the three he will leave in?

19:50 Arsenal fans, its the news you've been waiting for.

Arsenal need Chamakh. A more depressing sentence, you will not read.

19:46 Spanish transfer guru Guillem Balague has just tweeted that Lassana Diarra is heading to Anzhi. It's the natural progression from Real Madrid and has nothing at all to do with the solid gold contract they gave him that he signed using lasers.

19:43 It looks like Michael Essien may be going somewhere after all.

19:36 Hugo Lloris has completed his medical at Tottenham and we await confirmation of the deal. Brad Friedel's insane appearence record in the Premier League is under serious threat.

19:27 Roque Santa Cruz has joined Malaga on loan. This means that he is still offically, a Manchester City player. He's been on loan more than a Father Ted box set.

19:18 Derek Boateng of FC Dnipro was thought to be on his way to Fulham but..

Nice of him to tag the Fulham account too.

19:07 Those amazing Sky sources tell us that Tottenham are trying to salvage a deal for Jao Mountinho. They agreed a 22m fee with Porto earlier in the day but talks between the player and club broke down. This all means Spurs have put more naughts on the contract.

19:04 Michael Essien is not in the Chelsea squad for tonight's game. This means...well anything.

19:02 Fulham reject formal bid from Liverpool for Clint Dempsey. This is the one that will happen seconds before midnight.

19:00 JIM WHITE has entered deadline day. S*** just got real.

No, its not a mistake. Adam Leventhal of Sky just tweeted this picture of Jim from the eighties. You didn't recognise him without the phone right?

18:53 Who speaks Italian?

It says that Gaston Ramirez has been sold to Southampton. This is the obligatory "coup" of the day.

18:49 Daniel Sturridge is on the bench for Chelsea tonight according to Telegraph scribe Henry Winter. He's not going anywhere then unless he has a quick getaway planned. Perhaps a private jet?

18:46 Maurice Edu's transfer to Stoke has been completed. How is he at throw ins?

18:43 Here's Dimitar Berbatov's first interview as a Fulham player. Someone smarter than I quipped that Berba has done more moving today than he did for all of last season.

18:40 Stephaine Mbia has just been on Sky Sports News explaining why he's heading to QPR. He's doing this from a private plane which has replaced the helicopter as the deadline day mode of transport.

18:37 Ryan "unfulfilled potenial" Babel is heading back to Ajax. He helpfully confirmed this by retweeting a FIFA.com report.

18:31 A morsel of news for Aston Villa fans. The Genk player Christian Benteke is in Birmingham to try a finalise a 5.5m deal. If you want to know how good he is, check his Football Manager stats.

18:26 There is actual football on tonight you know. The European Super cup final is on in Monaco and here is the Chelsea team that will try to stop Falcao and Atletico Madrid.

18:12 Chelsea have loaned Gael Kakuta to Vitesse Arnhem. Remember all the fuss about him a few years ago? Didn't last very long though.

17:56 Everton have completed the signing of Costa Rican international Bryan Oviedo from Copenhagen. The fee is around £5m. He can play left back or left midfield according to Wikipedia. Let's hope he's as good as everyone's favourite Costa Rican international, Paolo Wanchope.

17:40 Five hours and 20 minutes left in the transfer window and the big news so far:

  • Dimitar Berbatov has joined Fulham.
  • Spurs have agreed a £22m fee for Joao Moutinho of Porto and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could be on his way to Spurs from Lyon. Rafael van der Vaart and Giovanni dos Santos have left Spurs.
  • Man City have signed Maicon from Inter Milan for a bargain £3m and have agreed a £16m for Javi Garcia of Benfica. Nigel de Jong has left from AC Milan.
  • Michael Essien could be on his way to Arsenal and Nicklas Bendtner has left Arsenal on loan to Juventus.
  • Charlie Adam has joined Stoke for £4m from Liverpool
  • Swansea have signed winger Pablo Hernandez from Valencia for £5.5m

17:18 Juventus have completed the signing of Nicklas Bendtner on a one year loan deal with and option to buy. With the signing of Bendtner the title of 'greatest league in the world' has surely shifted to Serie A.

17:05 Man City are believed to have agreed a £16m fee for defensive midfielder Javi Garcia of Benfica, he has one cap for Spain. Also the fee for Maicon was a bargain £3m. City could sign up to 5 players today.

15:59 Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has arrived at Spurs Lodge. His signing would mean Spurs have four decent goalkeepers on their books along with Brad Friedel, Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes.

15:42 Spurs have agreed at club record £22m fee for Porto and Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho as a replacement for Luka Modric.

He might replace Modric in Spurs midfield but he'll never replace Modric as English football's greatest Gail Platt look-a-like.

15:24 It's official Dimitar Berbatov is a Fulham player.

Berbatov being unveiled at Fulham

14:35 French sports daily, L'Equipe, are reporting that Hugo Lloris will leave Olympique Lyon and head for Spurs before the end of this most chaotic of days.

I once had a friend text me at 3am to tell me "Hugo Lloris is the future of goalkeeping". The claim remains to be proved.

14:24 Rumours of business yet to be done at The Emirates. The talk is that the unfortunately hair-styled Marouane Chamakh will be joining Malaga or Besiktas on a long term loan, while Michael Essien will be bubble wrapped before he is delivered from Stamford Bridge and into the clutches of Arsene Wenger.

Presumably Wenger hasn't been available for comment on either story as he's currently driving his Moroccan striker to the airport, quite quickly.

Meanwhile, South Korean international, Park Chu-young has cut his Arsenal stay short and moved to Celta Vigo on a season long loan.

13:55 Once-upon-a-time Barcelona wonder kid, Giovanni Dos Santos, has finally moved on from Spurs.

The Mexican winger has been under contract at White Hart Lane for 4 seasons, but only played for the club during his first year.

Loan spells at Ipswich, Galatasary and Racing Santander (not to mention some excellent international displays) came and went until today, finally, Gio moves on.

Look at him there, delighted to be on his way.

13:44 Netherlands international Ibrahim Afellay has gone from Barca to Schalke 04 on a season long loan. Afellay had attracted interest from many quarters, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

13:32 Dimitar Berbatov declares his new love for Fulham.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't know where Dimitar is, they even went so far as to ask their viewers to let them know if they have seen him "anywhere in England".

Berbatov hasn't exactly gone underground, however-

Last seen in a kitchen, cooking chicken and advising people against listening to the papers. 13:00 AC Milan announce the signing of Nigel De Jong from Man City

AC Milan confirm that, following the summer departures of Antonio Cassano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, they have replenished their lunatic quotient with the signing of Nigel De Jong.

De Jong will, reportedly, be taking home €150,000 per week. That's one expensive hired goon.

12:57 Stoke confirm singing of Charlie Adam, from Liverpool.
