The much-anticipated clash of North vs South between Linfield and Cork City in Belfast yesterday was overshadowed by the tragic death of a supporter in the stands as the game was underway.
This further bad news for Northern Irish football follows the deaths of two Northern Irish fans in France during Euro 2016.
A statement posted on Linfield's official website confirmed the awful news:
The sympathy and condolences of everyone at Linfield FC are extended to the family and friends of the Linfield supporter who sadly passed away during tonight's Europa League game at Windsor Park.
Further details will be provided when they are known.
A goal from Sean Maguire secured a 1-0 victory for Cork to bring back to Turner's Cross for the second leg next Thursday but the result will have been soured following the fan's unfortunate passing.
