Spanish Third Division Club Captain Dies After Freak Gym Injury

Spanish football is in mourning after the death of a 26-year-old footballer who died after a tragic accident in the gym.

Fran Carles, full name Francisco Javier Pardo Garrido - captained Spanish third division side Linares Deportivo, died after organ failure from an accident in the gym.

The 26-year-old suffered a brain hemorrhage, after sustaining a thigh injury in the gym. It's believed that he was doing weight training, and the injury spread to other organs.

A statement released by the Spanish club read:

There are no words to express the deep sorrow we feel

His funeral took place in earlier today with more than 4,000 people turning up to pair their respects to the deceased. His coffin was carried around the club grounds.
