Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-min has avoided two years of military service after South Korea beat Japan 2-1 in the final of the Asian Games.

The 26-year-old has missed the opening round of Premier League games in a bid to avoid the compulsory requirement of military service. However, goals from Seung-Woo Lee and Hwang Hee-chan means he is set for a military service exemption.

Son is one of three permitted older players joining the nation's U-23 team in the competition. The South African star also featured at the World Cup in Russia and thus has been exposed to an intense period over the past few months. Having been signed in 2015 for £22m, Son signed a five-year deal last July.

In his absence, Harry Kane has started both of Spurs opening Premier League games and ended his August hoodoo in the process.
