At 31, Fernando Torres will never be the player he was during his first couple of years at Liverpool. But despite that, the fact that he can once again play an important part in a quality Atletico Madrid squad is nice to see for many fans. He may be a backup to the likes of Mario Mandzukic but as Villarreal saw last night, a fit Fernando Torres coming off the bench is a very potent weapon.
The defending from Villarreal's Eric Bailly is atrocious but the speed off the ground from Torres is undoubtedly reminiscent of the player he was a few years ago. The confidence to grab the only goal of the game when he did get in the position was also very impressive.
