Jurgen Klopp was not happy after his Liverpool side dragged themselves back into the game to earn a point against Tony Pulis' West Brom. Klopp found out the hard way why Jose Mourinho always counted Pulis amongst the toughest managers he ever faced.
In the aftermath of the game, Klopp was irritated by the long ball tactics employed by West Brom in the game. Klopp refused to shake Pulis' hand after the game saying that Liverpool were "not allowed" to lose to a team that "only play long balls". Needless to say, Pulis couldn't resist responding to the German's taunts.
Pulis channelled a former Liverpool boss- Rafa Benitez - in his retort to the current Reds boss, suggesting that Klopp was just embarrassed that his squad which cost a lot more than West Brom's couldn't claim the victory:
If I had a team that was worth £200m playing against a team that was worth less than £20m and we never won that game, I'd be doing my best to divert it away from the fact that I had 10 times more value on the pitch than my opposition number had and couldn't win the game.
Using Sky Sports' own statistics, Pulis claimed that his team only played the long ball three times in the game:
I'm just stating the facts. Forget all the spin, that's the facts.
It's a pity that no one present had the presence of mind to point out to Pulis the 'fact' that his West Brom team wasn't worth less than £20m - especially considering they spent over £30m just this summer on five players - including £12m on Salomon Rondon.
But he can definitely be forgiven for overlooking that fact with his parting shot at Klopp, claiming that he's more concerned about the Baggies next game against Bournemouth and how tough that should be:
I don't know the fella, I don't want to say anything else. They were the facts. We've got a big game on Saturday, a game that we think will be more difficult than the Liverpool game.
That's cold Tony, that's cold.
