This evening in Paris, Toni Kroos entered the stratosphere of the truly elite world footballers. After Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0, Kroos lifted the Champions League trophy for the fifth time.

The German played a pivotal role tonight for Real as himself, Modric and Casemiro helped Los Blancos absorb Liverpool's early onslaught and build a platform to victory.

Perhaps he was expecting more adulation ended from his own people, because after the match Toni Kroos got thick with a German broadcast crew during a post-match interview.

Kroos was interviewed by German broadcaster ZDF immediately after the game. Kroos was asked initially asked if he was surprised that Real Madrid were put under so much pressure for the 90 minutes.

His reply was priceless: "You had 90 minutes to think of a reasonable question and you came up with two bullshit questions."

He also criticised German negativity.

Toni Kroos's teammate Thibaut Courtois was not shying away from the microphone after the game. The Belgian was heroic throughout the 90 minutes, and massively responsible for Real's Champions League win tonight.

He said after the match:

“I had all the tweets coming my way that I would get humbled. Today it was the other way around.

“I needed to win a final for my career for all my hard work and to put respect on my name because I don't think I have enough respect, especially in England.

“I saw a lot of criticism after a great season that I was not good enough. I'm just really proud of the performance from the team and when I needed to be there I was there for the team.

“We have beaten the best clubs in the world. This year, City and Liverpool were unbelievable this season fighting till the end in the Premier League.

“Liverpool won two cups and today they were really strong but I think I played a great game and that was the difference today because we had one chance and we scored it.”
