You take a look at Tommy McNamara - even without knowing his name - and you think 'He looks Irish'.
He has the appearance of someone who's the 26th man on the Wicklow football panel. There's also a hint of Joey Lapira about him - that's largely down to his hair band.
The 25-year-old, born in New York, is eligible to play for Ireland through his paternal grandfather. He already holds an Irish passport.
In March, he told MLSSoccer.com that there has been interest from the FAI.
I have an Irish passport. I’ve had it for almost 10 years now. Someone from the FAI reached out and wanted to confirm whether I did have a passport or not.
On Sunday, he showed why the FAI have made advances.
The New York City FC midfielder scored peach to beat Portland.
After some tenacious tackling in midfield - by none other than David Villa - the ball found its way to Andrea Pirlo on the edge of the box. A casual ball from Pirlo - what else is there? - found McNamara 20 metres from goal. He fired a tremendous shot beyond the reach of Jake Gleeson.
