When Tom Cleverley left Man United on loan at the start of the season, many fans dusted down their hands and thought good riddance to bad rubbish. Which was perhaps a tad harsh.
Cleverley's emergence as an important first team member at Old Trafford came during David Moyes' ill-fated spell and that certainly worked against the England international. It was a sink or swim time and, as with many of Moyes' players, Cleverley sank.
With just a year left on his contract, the 25 year old joined Aston Villa on loan and gradually began to show the kind of form that led many to assume he would be a fixture of United's team for year's to come.
Such was his importance to Villa in the second half of the season that Tim Sherwood 'joked' that Cleverley would not be in the FA Cup final squad if he didn't sign on permanently at Villa Park. It seems that warning has failed however.

Cleverley did start and now he's all set to join Everton on a five year deal. The Times are reporting that the midfielder has accepted a deal worth around £50,000 a week to join the Toffees, much to Sherwood's anger (we're assuming).
With Christian Benteke also threatening to depart Villa Park, it could be the beginning of a testing summer for the former Spurs boss.
