Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell says Chris Sutton's digs are especially annoying because the former Celtic man had a very different opinion of him when he was at Norwich.

The two ex-Norwich players have been involved in social media exchanges since Cantwell joined Rangers from the Championship side in January.

"My stance on this is very clear," Cantwell told The Beautiful Game podcast.

'I will always follow Rangers 100 per cent'

"You have pundits, ex-footballers, and their life is completely different now. They don't have that opportunity to play any more. There's one thing I can't understand when it comes to pundits who used to play football, which is jumping on players. What I would call what Chris Sutton does is [being] an attention seeker. I find that bizarre.

"If you had a good career, why are you sat on Twitter hammering into a lad that you had an interview with and you said, 'You're an amazing person, an amazing footballer' when I was back at Norwich. He just forgets that.

"It's like this isn't even real. What he's doing is playing up to his links with Celtic. He needs to stay relevant. That's sad for me. If I'm an ex-player and I'm on Twitter tweeting a 25-year-old trying to stay relevant, for me, I'd look at myself and go 'What am I doing?'

"Why are you so interested in Todd Cantell? Why are you so interested in Rangers? You played for Celtic - support Celtic! Tweet about Celtic. You love them. That's fine.

"He frustrates me. The reason I've had a couple of chomps, and I don't chomp on much, is because he spoke to me at Norwich and he told me what a fantastic footballer I was, 'The world is at your feet, Todd. You're a great guy, Todd'.

"I sign for Rangers and it's like, 'Oh, just forget everything I said before. I'm going to start a feud with you on Twitter'."

Cantwell said that prior to joining Rangers, he never thought about playing in Scotland.

"That's not me being arrogant," he continued.

"I didn't see that as an option. I never even heard that these teams were interested.

"From the moment I arrived to this very moment now, I feel like I've been a Rangers fan my whole life. It's so weird. It might sound like, 'Ah, yeah, of course it does. He has to say that, he plays for them now'.

"I promise you, however long I play here - which as a footballer is definitely out of your control - I will always follow Rangers 100 per cent.

"The club to me has been immensely powerful. It has made me fall in love with [football] again. There is a big expectation, a big pressure, but I love it."
