Embattled Chelsea owner Todd Boehly made the unusual decision of addressing the Chelsea players following their latest defeat to Brighton last weekend.

It was revealed by Matt Law in the Daily Telegraph that in the aftermath of their defeat to Brighton at Stamford Bridge, club owners Behdad Eghbali, Hansjorg Wyss and Todd Boehly went down to the Chelsea dressing room to speak with the players.

Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Brighton is their third loss in a row and the club is now eleventh in the Premier League.

Sitting in the bottom half of the domestic league and on the cusp of exiting the Champions League, Boehly thought this was the perfect opportunity to make a speech to his players just before the decisive Champions League quarter finals second leg on Tuesday against holders Real Madrid.

Todd Boehly's pep talk

Boehly allowed interim club coach Frank Lampard to finish his usual post match talk before entering the dressing rooms to address the players.

The club co-owner did not waste any time as he straight away described this situation as 'embarrassing' for Chelsea.

Other reports say Boehly asked the Chelsea players why they weren't living up to their transfer fee.

According to reports, Boehly pleaded with the Chelsea squad to save their season tonight at Stamford Bridge and give fans something to support in these late stages of the season.

The fact that the club owner - who has not exactly proved himself to be a master of football in his one season of ownership - has decided to address players and staff is a sign of the growing crisis at the club.

Boehly was also seen in an angry confrontation with Chelsea supporters after the game.

Reactions to Todd Boehly entering the teams' dressing room

Speaking ahead of the Madrid tie yesterday, interim manager Frank Lampard said he has no problem with such interventions from club owners .

I am comfortable with that. They may have been some criticism of our old club owner for not coming to games or not being around. That wasn't always true to be fair. But when an owner is invested in their interest, in their team and wants to help, improve, it's their prerogative to have the input they want.

Chelsea's goalkeeper Kepa has told media that Boehly is in the dressing room after every Chelsea gam:

Todd comes to the changing room in every game. He had different chats with us after different games. I am not going to say what he said but this is normal when he came to the changing room.

Real Madrid's manager Carlo Ancelotti also gave his thoughts about Todd Boehly giving a talk ahead of their Champions League match. Ancelotti said that he 'has no problem' with it and that club owners are allowed to know the decisions taken by their managers'.

Chelsea will welcome Real Madrid for the second leg of this year's Champions League quarter finals. They lost the first game 2-0 and Boehly alongside everyone at the London club will hope that Chelsea can turn around the situation so they make it to the semis.
