Unai Emery confirms Arsenal will only sign loan players this month
While Arsenal have been linked with a number of players (including Barcelona's Denis Suarez), manager Unai Emery says the club will not make any permanent signings this month:
We cannot make payments to sign players. We can only loan players.
I don’t know about his [Suarez] situation. But we can only sign players on loan.
I know the club is working to find players who can help us, with this condition. I know these players and they are very good players. But I cannot sign more.
Frenkie de Jong to stay at Ajax until at least the summer
Ajax have a number of prodigious talents in the squad at the moment, with Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong their two biggest assets. Both have been linked with January moves away from the clubs, with Barcelona and PSG leading the race for their signatures.
It appears that at least one of the players will still be in Amsterdam for the rest of the season, however, after Frenkie de Jong confirmed his intentions to remain at the club in a social media post. Manchester City had been heavily courting the player, but Pep Guardiola's attentions will now have to be turned elsewhere.
