Ask Manchester United fans which youngster they are most excited about having at Old Trafford, and the majority will understandably issue 'Marcus Rashford' as a response, but while the young striker has made international news with his goals at such a tender age, there is another young star who has already won over most of the club's fans.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah has made an extremely bright start at Man United having been handed his first-team debut by his compatriot Louis Van Gaal, but with Mourinho coming in some fear that the younger players who shone may have to take a back seat for the immediate future.
However, it would be very worrying if Jose was to overlook the Dutch utility player, as with all the physical attributes that Mourinho likes to see in a player, he could thrive under the guidance of the Portuguese.
He is also a very keen learner, and while speaking to ESPN he revealed the things that helped him the most from his debut season. Ryan Giggs, as well as Wayne Rooney, were very influential for Fosu-Mensah, but when he explained what they had said, it makes for rather funny reading.
Giggs talked to me a lot. For example, after the semifinal of the FA Cup against Everton, when I played well, but also caused a penalty. 'Stay on your feet in such a situation,' Giggs said. I learned so much from that.
Ryan Giggs, football genius.
As for Rooney, it doesn't say much for his ambitions to 'attack, attack, attack'...
I listen to Michael Carrick, Chris Smalling and to the Dutch guys, Daley Blind and Memphis Depay. I sit in the dressing room and just listen to what everyone has got to say, and especially to our captain, Wayne Rooney.
I remember when I conquered the ball in the semifinal against Everton in the 44th minute. I crossed midfield and tried to reach Rooney, but the pass was intercepted. Then Rooney came to me and said: 'Timothy, it's the 44th minute, almost half-time, keep the ball in the team at such a time.'
Revolutionary stuff. In all seriousness, TFM sounds like a very level-headed youngster.
He has raised eyebrows with his athleticism and defensive toughness, and with many believing that his best position is in central midfield rather than at full-back he could go on to play a role similar to Michael Essien in Mourinho's most successful Chelsea sides, but in the meantime his versatility will be invaluable.
