Former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has slammed former teammate Royston Drenthe for his behaviour at the club during his disastrous loan spell.
The former Dutch winger was seen as a bright prospect at Real Madrid, when he joined Everton on loan for the 2011-2012 season, scoring just four goals in 27 appearances.
While he had showed signs of promise early in his spell Royston Drenthe’s unprofessional behaviour meant he became an unpopular figure at Everton.

“In comes Royston in Rolls-Royces to training, bowls in with his shoes united, he has to run the perimeter of the training ground because he’s always late, his eyes were half open.
You were just at Real Madrid, what are you doing here.
I guess he’d never heard of CCTV and he ended up coming to the training ground in the middle of the night with friends, and they’re in the hot tub. You’re just thinking ‘You’re at the wrong club here mate.’
We’re Everton, rolled sleeves up, worker bees.”
This incident saw Royston Drenthe left out of the Everton side, who were managed by David Moyes at the timed. The winger was also absent for the FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool, with his continuous absence after taking time off for Compassionate leave.
Speaking in 2019 on his time in Everton, Drenthe admitted his regret over how he handled the incident that saw him banished from Goodison Park, while also having a sense of disappointment on how he acted during his time in England.
“I was waiting outside the room, whereas I probably should have just walked in quietly and taken a seat.
When I went in afterwards, Moyes told me to f*** off. I should have accepted it, but I said, ‘What do you mean, f*** off, bro? You f*** off’.
“And then I left for Holland and didn’t come back. If I’d adapted more to Moyes I think I’d have reaped the benefits, as initially I did play a lot under him.”
The years that followed saw his career turn into one of a journeyman, with spells across several clubs across Europe. Drenthe currently plays his football in Spain with Real Murica.
