Today can't have been an easy day for AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar as he prepared to face the Netherlands in a World Cup qualifier, thanks to the absolute circus that is the transfer deadline day in England.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool were reported to be trying to make a deal for Lemar happen, but both fell through meaning he will be staying in Ligue 1 until January at least.

While Liverpool's interest ranged from 'concrete' to non-existent over the course of the day according to various reports, Arsenal most certainly tried to sign Lemar but couldn't get the deal done. There have been contrasting claims that he rejected the switch due to the lack of Champions League football, others claim that was just not enough time.

The player himself seemed to not be bothered by all the fuss as he bagged two goals in a 4-0 win over Holland, the second of which was an absolute peach:

He then added a second, France's 3rd after a breakaway that ended up looking like the 'Flying-V' from The Mighty Ducks.

Lovely goal, not what Arsenal fans wanted to see after all that happened today.

That win was a massive boost for France's 2018 World Cup hopes, as they moved 3 points clear at the top of their group following Sweden's loss to Bulgaria.
