Thomas Delaney is the Copenhagen captain and his evident long-range shooting skills will no doubt have alerted Irish football fans wondering why the heck he has never been in any Ireland squads. Whether he may be the answer to our (insert position and/or predicament here) problem.
But rest your minds at ease, worried Balls readers. You can sleep soundly tonight, avoiding a night of restless tossing and turning, contemplating what we could have achieved with Delaney pulling the strings.
Because, as outlined by Daniel McDonnell several years ago in the Indo, Delaney does not come under any 'granny' rule qualification. He explained then that his Irish roots go back to the 18th century. The Delaney clan arrived in New York from Ireland, only for a few to branch out and head to Denmark where eventually the awesome left foot now lording it in the Danish Superliga was spawned.
Oh, what could have been....(gazes wistfully into pint)
