Last night was a great night in Europe for the SSE Airtricity League with comfortable wins for all 3 sides in the Europa League. Derry City's 5-0 win over Aberystwyth created quite a few records. It was the record away win by a League of Ireland club and contributed to a record aggregate win of 9-0. It also featured the first ever hat trick scored by a League of Ireland player in European competition. This is how Rory Patterson completed his treble
Elsewhere Dundalk finished off Luxembourgian side Jeunesse Esch with a 3-1 win in Oriel Park. Having won the first leg 2-0, Dundalk's progress was never in doubt. Sligo Rovers drew the first leg against Lithuanians Bangu 0-0 but created their own bit of history with a 4-0 win at home last night. All 3 Irish sides will be in action next Thursday.
