This Hilarious Stat Shows The Real Damage That Awful Alan Shearer Advert Has Done

The worst thing about Newcastle United at the moment isn't the fact that they have lost their last eight Premier League games or that their club appears to be in turmoil, but rather a truly crap advert featuring one of the legends of the club.

The ad for Barclays features Alan Shearer pretending to give a family a set of tickets to a Newcastle match after boring the arse off of everyone watching by recalling his first time at St.James' Park. It also features a bunch of Geordies claiming that "It could have been me!" who lifted a young Shearer above the crowd for a goal celebration, or baked him a pie, or some other completely mundane part of a day that nobody could give a shit about. It really makes for painful viewing.

As it turns out, the advert is so terribly bad that it may in fact have been the reason for Newcastle's disastrous run of form...

Newcastle have lost every league match since that Alan Shearer advert premiered the evening of 28th February. Eight games.

There can be no other reason. The advert is so terrible that Newcastle may never win another game while it runs on TV. While the video in question was posted to Barclays' YouTube channel on the 26th on February, it didn't hit television stations until the 28th, which was the same day that Newcastle beat Aston Villa 1-0. Ever since, things have been going from bad to worse for Newcastle United.

If you feel like punishing yourself this afternoon, or if you are one of the lucky few who haven't been exposed to this really crap ad, here it is:

It's been abused on twitter, it's been parodied on YouTube, and it's killing Newcastle United. Stop the madness. Now.
