Earlier this week, Richard Dunne confirmed that he was aiming to earn a new contract with QPR with the intention of seeing them get promotion straight back to the Premier League. Unfortunately for the former Ireland stalwart, that is not going to happen.
Dunne is among a number of high profile departures from Loftus Road in the aftermath of the club's relegation. Alongside Dunne, Joey Barton, Rio Ferdinand, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Bobby Zamora and Irish goalkeeper Brian Murphy have been released.

There's some very interesting names on that list. Not least Rio Ferdinand and Joey Barton. You would imagine that following the tragic passing of his wife, Rio Ferdinand will have some difficult decisions to make about his future, while Joey Barton's next move will certainly be of interest.
As for Dunne, if he does want to continue for one more year, there's surely a Championship club who could make use of his experience next season.
