He was capped in that largely forgettable 1-1 draw with Ecuador in 2007 - infamous for the appearance of Joey Lapira - but that fact that he hasn't had another Ireland cap isn't a reflection that Colin Doyle has had a similarly poor career.
The Blackpool goalkeeper has had a quietly impressive season for the seasiders, and was a contender for the club's player of the year. Unfortunately though, Doyle was part of a bad team that has been relegated to League Two.
It's a far cry from the days when Blackpool reached the Premier League in 2010, and were in the Championship playoff final a year later. The club had been in freefall since Ian Holloway's departure after that playoff final - with six managers come and gone in that period. It also doesn't help that 27 players left the club in the summer of 2014 - leading to two straight relegations to League Two.
The League Two relegation triggers two clauses in Doyle's contract. The first will see him take a big pay-cut should he remain at Bloomfield Road. The second has made the one-cap international available for a cut price of £1.
The former Birmingham City keeper looks like he'll be a transfer target for a host of League One clubs after his individually impressive season.
