There are a bevy of names being linked to the vacant Celtic manager position. With Norwegian Ronny Deila departing at the end of the season, former Celtic player David Moyes was installed as the early favourite, but the former Everton and Man United boss has drifted out. Other former Celtic players like Neil Lennon, Roy Keane, and Henrik Larsson were all linked to the job - but a new clear favourite has emerged.
Current Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Lambert has confirmed that he will be leaving Ewood Park this summer. The former Celtic captain will be activating a release clause in a contract he signed in November and bookies have acted swiftly to slash his price to 4/7.
Lambert's impressive managerial career has stalled after difficult periods in charge of Rovers and Aston Villa, and the Scot might welcome a return to Celtic where he had the best period of his career.
Lambert insists his departure from Blackburn is born out of frustration with how he saw the club going forward - but he bears no ill-will towards the club's owners:
I’m not unhappy with the club – maybe frustrated more than anything. There was maybe a different direction that I wanted to go in – to drive the club really hard and fast to try and get out of the league.
There are only two scenarios in the Championship – you either get promoted by going straight up or by being in the play-offs or are outside that and are much of a muchness with everybody else. I thought Blackburn had the potential to go and challenge in that top six in the summer.
There's no shortage of potential suitors for the Parkhead club, and it's arguable that the job is more attractive with Rangers' return to the SPL.
