Mick McCarthy is understood to have failed in an attempt to bring Kevin Doyle to Portman Road on loan.
McCarthy who signed Doyle in 2009 for a fee of £6.5 million was hoping to re-unite with the 30-year-old, but it seems his loan availability has been rebuffed.
According to the Daily Mail, Doyle had been strongly linked with a move to Middlesbrough but with talks seeming to hit a dead end, it looked likely for the Irish international to link up with McCarthy for a second time. Unfortunately for Doyle it looks likely he won't be making the move which would have seen him join old Wolves teammates Christophe Berra, Stephen Hunt and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
McCarthy also hit the headlines for other news today, with a contender for Quote Of The Season.
