There was a fair amount of weariness and bemusement at the spectacle of Raheem Sterling being booed by Irish supporters, presumably on the grounds that he wishes to leave Liverpool Football Club this summer.
He joins Georgia's Shota Arveladze and Denmark's Peter Madsen in being booed relentlessly by the Irish crowd. Shota was booed for the crime of plying his trade with Rangers Football Club while Madsen was booed because the Lansdowne Road PA announcer mistook him for someone who plied his trade with Rangers Football Club.
The reaction to this online has been one of extreme mortification.
As a result of the booing, we now believe that any violence that occurs today will likely spring from diehard League of Ireland heads attacking other Ireland fans.
Raheem himself probably doesn't know what to think.
'What did I ever do to the Irish?'
Sterling being booed is fairly pathetic. Some Ireland fans can't leave their English club loyalties at home. #IreEng

Hopefully we can play the booing of Sterling off as racism to try and avoid embarrassment — Jonathan (@J_1928) June 7, 2015
Sepp Blatter, John Delaney and Raheem Sterling taking bit of stick from the crowd here. Poor old Raheem. At least others probably know why.

There are Kasabian lyrics that make more sense than the booing of Raheem Sterling by Ireland fans. #IREvENG — Richie McCormåck (@RichieMcCormack) June 7, 2015
Haven't seen Sterling struggle this badly in Ireland since the 0.873 exchange rate during the summer of 1999.

Wonder if UK TV viewers think the Sterling booing is racist. Can't see how they'd imagine it's because of his contract situation
