The rabid nature of the transfer window seems to grow exponentially every summer, oceans of ink are spilled and millions of keyboards are bashed to feed the insatiable hunger of fans who crave better days and spend the summer in a sort of idyllic Lotto-type fantasy where success is a Sky Sports flashing news bar away.
The transfer nonsense is ok of course. It's even fun if you don't take it that seriously but at what point does a manager suffering a cancer relapse morph into a transfer story? From today's Sun, the sad news of Tito Vilanova's resignation as Barcelona manager is reported as thus. Now, it's not our mission here at Balls.ie to moralize, quite the opposite in fact but some of the lines here are worth highlighting.
Tata Tito. It's Vilan-over for Barca boss. This is a man battling cancer.
"Another cancer setback"
You can be sure that AVB pointing out that this is a man's health we are talking about went completely unnoticed.
