The tale of the first half
Forgive me. At the beginning of the game I thought this would be a good idea. Unfortunately the sports stars of the world haven't had a lot to go on. Given there's been zero shots on target.
Poor auld Ronnie Whelan's even had to resort to using emojis.
Let's do this @ManUtd

— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) September 12, 2015
Not pressing against united at old Trafford nice one and they with a makeshift team ffs
— Conor.mortimer (😷)⚽️ (@Conmort) September 12, 2015
Worry for #MUFC is they don’t seem to have the cutting edge to take advantage of their dominance.@talkSPORT ON AIR LIVE

Two great teams cancelling each other out. 😂😂😂😂😱😱😱
— Ronnie Whelan (@WhelanRonnie5) September 12, 2015
As strikers go, Fellaini is not a striker.

Literally the first memorable thing to happen in the game was the half-time whistle
Poor game so far, someone wake me up for the 2nd half..One consolation is me and my Scouse missus are still talking #onlyjust #MUFCvsLFC
— Dion Dublin (@DionDublinsDube) September 12, 2015
That's 45 minutes I won't get back! Two bad teams on show. 🙈 #MUFCvLFC
— Barry Cahill (@barrycahilldub) September 12, 2015
That first half was painful to watch Man Utd v Liverpool 😴😴
— Kevin Davies (@Kevin__Davies) September 12, 2015
Thank god for that. It's half-time. More excitement in the office because dinner is on its way! #MUNLIV #motd

The tale of the second half
Thankfully, just a few minutes after the restart, the game got its first goal thanks to Daley Blind. Queue much rejoicing.
Better
— Dion Dublin (@DionDublinsDube) September 12, 2015
Then Daley Blind turned hero again when he blocked a shot on the line.
Wow... @BlindDaley 👏👏
— Andrew Cole (@vancole9) September 12, 2015
Will we ever get a tweet longer than one word again? Who knows...
Oh wait, here's one.
not a bit surprised .... One striker again today ! Doesn't matter who we have up top as we create nothing of note. 😡
— Conor.mortimer (😷)⚽️ (@Conmort) September 12, 2015
An Ander Herrera penalty was nicely dispatched after Joe Gomez had fouled him. Game over.
Klopp waiting in the wings then.......
2-0 game over.— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) September 12, 2015
Roy still believes!
Come on lads! Heads up! Let's see some passion and attack! #dontgiveup
— ROY EVANS (@Roy_Evo) September 12, 2015
But Rio was a bit more realistic.
Benteke needs to be isolating the physically weaker defenders & bullying them... @manutd Have walked this...literally!
— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) September 12, 2015
Low and behold Christian Benteke went and scored a goal of the season contender and Anthony Martial bagged one on his debut. Excitement everywhere.
Amazing how a game of football can be so different in two halves!
— Matt Le Tissier🌸 (@mattletiss7) September 12, 2015
In a decidedly forgettable game that was a truly memorable goal by Benteke.
— Gary Lineker 💙💛 (@GaryLineker) September 12, 2015
#Martial wow! What an introduction to @manutd !
— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) September 12, 2015
Wow. Martial #MUFC . What a second half
— Ronny Johnsen (@JRonnyJohnsen) September 12, 2015
Terrifiic start for the lad. Great goal. Why didn't he start?
